i frust frust frust about annoyances, and then i look across the mezzanine and am reminded of.... the pressing matters that matter.
the civic engagement center is actually doing something cool for once. they are doing an awareness campaign for Darfur. they have posters everywhere, are camping out on the tennis courts, are having a clothing sale in the ballroom, showing films, and are putting on a benefit dinner. they have this sign set up explaining how far our dollars can go in funding how many refugees from darfur and helping them trace their families, etc. i'm so thankful the center is using their time and effort to put this on. it's just so much better than funding... so many of the things they fund. i'm really thankful to see some publicity on this campus to bring awareness to what's happening in africa. their sign said 40,000 killed already in darfur. i was with my boss and she was so skeptical, like 'what in the world' and i just thought, wow... too many people have no idea.
speaking of africa, my brother is in the process of preparing an art show. half the proceeds will go to AIDS relief in maputo, mozambique where tim was. he is talking with pastor innocencio, who tim lived with and worked with, to get his opinion as to where the money could be best used. the other half will go toward funding his photogenx outreach that starts in september. just wanted to start the plug so that as many of you as possible will come and check it out. he is making some really beautiful, big paintings, and will have a whole lot of matted and framed photo prints from mozambique. it's going to be furreallll.
and, i apologize for my christian radio rantings. as repetitive and cliche as the songs are... the words are still true and real and i am able to find some amount of comfort and encouragement in them at work.... as much as i still want to hear some newbies & goodies.
